OVERVIEW
The Rockwell Collins Information Services Cabinet (ISC-2200) is a basic
offering on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The ISC-2200 leverages Rockwell Collins’investment
in information management products and is a key element in Boeing’s
787 e-Enable Architecture. The (ISC-2200) is a highly-integrated, and ruggedized
electronics cabinet, housing ARINC 763 and ARINC 664 functionality into a
single enclosure. Utilizing commercial open standards, ISC-2200 hosts a wide
range of third-party applications and manages on-board information flow to
improve airline operational efficiency. The ISC-2200 includes the necessary
file servers, routers and avionics interfaces in a single cabinet, with growth
blade slots for future functionality enhancements. Modules contained within
the cabinet is a Network Interface Module (NIM-2200), Ethernet Gateway Module
(EGM-2200) and File Server Module (FSM-2200), all operating from an internal
AC power supply. This architecture offers significant weight, space, and
power savings compared to stand-alone LRUs.
DESCRIPTION
The Information Services Cabinet is a modular (e.g., LRU) implementation
for servers and Ethernet gateways that provide a platform for an airborne
internet protocol (IP) based data network. The ISC-2200 is a key information
management platform combining the capacity to provide network and computing
services, with connectivity between the air-ground, passenger and crew sub-systems
to form the core of the information services sub-network on the airplane.
Information systems support is organized into sub-networks targeted for crew
and airline operations functions as well as passenger Internet and entertainment
services.
HARDWARE Information Services Cabinet (ISC-2200)
The ISC-2200 includes the following standard modules:
Network Interface Module (NIM-2200) Ethernet Gateway Module (EGM-2200) File Server Module (FSM-2200) Modular Chassis Assembly (MCA-2200) Air Blocking Module (ABM-2100) Network Interface Module (NIM-2200)
The Network Interface Module provides a gateway security function between
the information services sub-network and avionics by developing a generic
gateway which can easily be adapted to specific airplane models. A generic
gateway dramatically reduces the avionics-specific knowledge required for
information services development. More importantly, providing Ethernet access
to all avionics interfaces through a single adapter module effectively makes
all servers capable of avionics access without modifying airplane wiring or
creating special hardware.
The NIM-2200 offers the following features: Segregation between the avionics systems and then non-essential
and open networks 2 ARINC 573-717 inputs 8 ARINC 429 outputs 26 ARINC 429 inputs 32 Discrete inputs 32 Discrete outputs Standardized API 1 internal 10/100 baseT Ethernet interface 17 external 10/100 baseT Ethernet interfaces 400W (max), 115Vac/400 Hz (and variable frequency) primary
power Ethernet Gateway Module (EGM-2100)
The Ethernet Gateway Module provides a wired network connection with
security features between the connected systems based on ARINC 664 / IEEE
802.3 Ethernet for standard protocols such as Internet. The EGM-2200 components,
the Ethernet gateway card (EGC) and the Ethernet gateway transition (EGT)
card, provide standard protocols for general routing, network services, IP
multicasting, quality and class of service and network management.
The EGC is a COTS-based 6U cPCI Ethernet switch/router module. The EGT is custom designed to properly interface with the aircraft wiring
via ARINC 600 Quadrax contacts. This interface provides adequate filtering
for EMI concerns. The transition card also utilizes a specific power conditioning
and current limiting circuit design to ensure proper operational condition
onboard the aircraft. The EGM-2200 offers the following network interfaces: File Server Module (FSM-2200)
The File Server Module provides the processing platform for applications
hosted within the Information Services Cabinet. Based upon an industry standard
form factor designed for the airborne environment the FSM provides:
Standard 1.6 Ghz Pentium M Intel processor 1 GB DDR SDRAM 100 GB Hard disk drive 1 internal 10/100 baseT Ethernet interface 1 external 10/100 baseT Ethernet interface Modular Chassis Assembly (MCA-2200)
The Modular Assembly provides the cabinet housing structure in which
the other Information Services Cabinet modules are installed. The MCA-2200
is affixed to the aircraft structure and provides interfacing routing connections
and an air plenum to serve the other modules.
Air Blocking Module (ABM-2100)
The Air Blocking Module protects and restricts airflow through the provisioned
expansion slots section of the cabinet and provides adequate filtering for
EMI concerns when FSM-2200s are not installed. ABM-2100s are removed when
additional FSM-2200s are installed.
