Momentum and Reaction Wheels 4 - 12 Nms with Integrated Wheel Drive Electronics
|
Overview
Rockwell Collins TELDIX® momentum and reaction wheels are available in five different sizes with an angular momentum storage
capacity spanning a range between 0.04 Nms and 68 Nms. The wheels accommodate the requirements of attitude control systems
for satellites weighing less than 65 kg as well as for geostationary satellites reaching a mass of three tons and more.
|
Description
This wheel family targets both Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellites. Satellites in those orbits
are used for a multitude of applications in communication, earth observation, and science. Radiation hardness and a long lifetime
are typical requirements accommodated by the Rockwell Collins wheels.
The wheel contains built-in Wheel Drive Electronics with a simple but reliable signal interface for:
- Analog torque command
- Analog/bi-level telemetry
These wheels are intended for satellites with a life expectancy of 15 years or more. The 15-year wheel design life is achieved
by using a dedicated oil-resupply-system in the bearing unit, invented by Rockwell Collins. The system is activated by centrifugal
forces and it guarantees adequate, permanent lubrication replenishment during its entire lifetime.
All versions may be used either as momentum or as reaction wheels.
Applications
This wheel family is used in the Spacebus3000 platform. Other platforms and programs like Eurostar3000, Protéus, or Mars Express
have followed.
