Momentum and Reaction Wheels 0.2 - 1.6 Nms
|
Overview
Rockwell Collins TELDIX® momentum and reaction wheels are available in five different sizes with an angular momentum storage
capacity spanning a range between 0.04 Nms and 68 Nms. The wheels accommodate the requirements of attitude control systems
for satellites weighing less than 65 kg as well as for geostationary satellites reaching a mass of three tons and more.
|
Description
This wheel family has been designed to cover the angular momentum storage range between 0.2 Nms and 1.6 Nms. Combining the
advantages of the space-proven wheels of the series RSI 01-5 and RSI 12, a new generation of reaction wheels was created.
This type of wheel targets the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites.
The wheel contains built-in Wheel Drive Electronics (WD) with a simple but reliable signal interface for:
- Analog torque command
- Analog/bi-level telemetry
For the standard design, the in-orbit lifetime is five years. By changing the rotating mass and/or the wheel’s maximum speed,
both the angular momentum storage capacity and the power consumption are adaptable to customer requirements. Due to the modular
design, lifetime requirements of up to 15 years may be satisfied by implementing the TELDIX bearing unit from the RSI 12 wheel
family.
All versions may be used either as momentum or as reaction wheels.
Applications
The wheel was first applied in the MACSAT program. It can be adapted for other programs and platforms.
