Momentum and Reaction Wheels 14 - 68 Nms
|
Overview
Rockwell Collins TELDIX® momentum and reaction wheels are available in five different sizes with an angular momentum storage
capacity spanning a range between 0.04 Nms and 68 Nms. The wheels accommodate the requirements of attitude control systems
for satellites weighing less than 65 kg as well as for geostationary satellites reaching a mass of three tons and more.

Description
This wheel family, covering the momentum range from 14 to 68 Nms, features a versatile design capable of dealing with a great
variety of applications in all possible satellite orbits. The basic design consists of a highly reliable bearing unit, a spoked
flywheel mass, and a DC motor in a vacuum tight, evacuated housing. The modular design allows adaptation for program specific
requirements.
The Wheel Drive Electronics (WDE) comes as a separate unit either in a horizontal or vertical housing depending on mechanical
and thermal requirements. The WDE is equipped with a simple, but reliable signal interface for:
- Analog torque command
- Analog/bi-level telemetry
A version with integrated WDE is also available.
These wheels may be used in satellites with a life expectancy of 15 years or more. The 15-year wheel design life is achieved
by using a dedicated oil-resupply-system in the bearing unit, invented by Rockwell Collins. The system is activated by centrifugal
forces and it guarantees adequate, permanent lubrication replenishment during its entire lifetime.
All versions may be used either as momentum or as reaction wheels.
Applications
This wheel family is being used on the Spacebus3000, Omegasat, and Eurostar3000 platforms.
