Overview

High-Precision Mechanisms for Satellites, including:

  • TELDIX® Space Wheels (Ball Bearing Momentum and Reaction Wheels with Wheel Drive Electronics (WDE))
  • Low-noise Magnetic Bearing Stabilization Wheels
  • Solar Array Drive Assemblies (SADA)
  • Antenna Pointing Mechanisms
  • Systems for Optical Satellite Communication (e.g., SILEX)

Ball Bearing Momentum and Reaction Wheels (Standard Products)

Rockwell Collins Deutschland GmbH is the sole commercial manufacturer of TELDIX Space Wheels (ball bearing momentum and reaction wheels) in Germany and the leading manufacturer in Europe.

Rockwell Collins TELDIX Space Wheels are the ultimate choice for advanced satellite stabilization.

We have approximately 850 TELDIX® Space Wheels installed in over 300 launched satellites, representing nearly 4000 years of in orbit operation (as of July 2009).

Reaction Wheel for Micro- and Mini-Satellites (Standard Products)

In 1990, Rockwell Collins started the development of an experimental low cost reaction/momentum wheel with integrated Wheel Drive Electronics for use in very small satellites. The wheels of this type were delivered in 1993 for the satellites TUBSAT B and C, built by the Technical University of Berlin and were also selected and built for KITSAT-3 (Korea) and a small spacecraft called Inspector built by DASA, Bremen. The more stringent requirements of small commercially used satellites require an adaptation of the experimental design to a highly reliable, medium-life space-qualified reaction wheel as for the ORBCOMM constellation.
