Overview
Rockwell Collins has established itself as a premier supplier of customized complex electronics on a number of high profile
military aircraft programs, such as the Eurofighter, by providing technologically superior products to its customers. We present
our customers with a compelling value proposition by working with them to develop new products for a reasonable cost in a
compressed timeframe. With over 40 years of experience in the military computers sector in Germany, Rockwell Collins has products
on more than 20 different platforms across airborne, naval and land-based applications. Today, our activities are focused
on the avionics segment and our technological developments are at the forefront of industry trends towards further modularization.
Product Offering
With our understanding of the total avionics architecture, Rockwell Collins is able to provide a wide range of enhanced, complex
solutions, from bus interface boards/modules at one end through the man/machine interface in the pilot's HUD unit, to complete
computing units for cockpit, mission and missile management. Our core competencies reside in the specification, design and
development of avionics computer systems and providing the "firmware" -- the basic operating system upon which the application
software sits along with the software drivers associated with the unit's interfacing. Depending on the customer's requirements,
Rockwell Collins possesses the capability to provide the application software itself, as we have done on the Tiger program's
RTU contract. As a testament to the company's significant design achievements to date, Rockwell Collins holds the design authority
for the majority of its products and qualifies them to the rigorous specifications of the customer.
Our product offering is program-specific, with individual units designed to a determined functionality and specification.
A typical avionic computer will consist of multiple processor modules and interfaces, including MIL-STD 1553B, STANAG 3910,
discrete, analog or intelligent, which connect directly to computers/equipment or associated buses in the avionics architecture,
such as avionics, attack and mission buses. Additionally, some computers require as part of their functionality data and signal
management, which is also a core competency and differentiator of Rockwell Collins systems. One example includes the Eurofighter
program, for which we provided solutions for requirements including voice compression and video signal management.
